Bosjökloster

Bosjökloster sits on the shore of Lake Ringsjön in the Swedish province of Skåne and ranks among the oldest surviving monastic complexes in Scandinavia. Founded around 1080 as a Benedictine nunnery, the site retains substantial Romanesque stonework — thick walls and plain arched windows that speak directly to its early medieval origins. Like many Scandinavian monasteries, it was dissolved during the 16th-century Reformation and passed into aristocratic private hands, beginning a long transformation from religious house to manor estate. Visitors today can walk the expansive park grounds, with mature trees framing views over the lake, and explore the partially ruined Romanesque cloister that gives the estate its quietly atmospheric character.
