Bonatzbau

The Bonatzbau is the historic core of Stuttgart's central railway station, designed by Paul Bonatz and Friedrich Eugen Scholer and built between 1914 and 1928. Its heavy natural-stone facade and expressionist massing — most recognizable in the squat tower and arcaded loggia — made it one of the defining station buildings of the Weimar era in Germany. As the wider Stuttgart 21 redevelopment project reshapes the site, the listed structure has been repurposed rather than demolished: parts of the building now house a library open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 8 pm, with free Wi-Fi. Note that the building is not wheelchair accessible.
