Allan Gardens

Allan Gardens is a public park in downtown Toronto, established in 1858 and named after George William Allan, a prominent 19th-century politician and businessman. Its centerpiece is a cluster of six greenhouses, the oldest of which — a Victorian palm house built in 1910 with a sweeping glass dome — ranks among the finest surviving conservatories in Canada. Inside, tropical and subtropical plants thrive year-round, including cacti, banana palms, and flowering orchids, offering a warm refuge during Toronto's harsh winters. The park sits between Carlton, Sherbourne, Gerrard, and Jarvis Streets in the dense Downtown East neighborhood. Admission to the conservatories is free, making it one of the city's most accessible botanical escapes.
