Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard

Patriarch Evtimiy Boulevard runs westward through central Sofia, named after Euthymius of Tarnovo, the last Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church before the Ottoman conquest of 1393. The street's most notable landmark is the building at No. 2, a late-historicist residence designed in 1899 by Bulgarian architect Petko Momtchillow for his brother and sister-in-law, Baroness von Uslar-Gleichen. The structure has been protected as a cultural monument since 1978 and houses Sofia's historic notary office. The boulevard itself is a quieter, tree-lined stretch of Sofia's Gründerzeit city center, the grid of which was laid out after Bulgarian independence in 1878 following Central European urban planning models.
