A 361 km² forest reserve just north of Ottawa with lakes, hiking trails, and ski runs — wilderness within reach of Canada's capital.
Gatineau Park is a 361 km² protected natural area in the Outaouais region of Québec, just a few kilometres north of Canada's Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Administered by the National Capital Commission, it forms a remarkable wilderness reserve on the doorstep of the federal capital. The park encompasses forested Laurentian hills, more than 50 lakes, and an extensive trail network for hikers, mountain bikers, and in winter, cross-country skiers and snowshoers. Kingsmere Lake and the historic estate of former Prime Minister Mackenzie King are among the most visited spots. The park's autumn foliage is a regional highlight that draws visitors from across the country. As a rare combination of untouched nature and proximity to a capital city, it appeals equally to families, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and those seeking a quiet escape.
