Castle Peak

At 583 metres, Castle Peak, historically known as Pui To Shan, is one of the most distinctive mountains in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong and sits in the Tuen Mun district. Fishermen traditionally used it as a navigation marker when entering Deep Bay. Its Chinese name Pui To refers to a Buddhist monk from the 5th-century Liu Song dynasty, to whom a monastery on the mountainside is dedicated. The hike up is steep, largely unshaded and demanding on hot days, but rewards walkers with views over Deep Bay, the bridge to Shenzhen and, on clear days, the Chinese mainland.
