Santa Sofia is a church in the southeastern Cannaregio sestiere of Venice with origins in the early 11th century, possibly earlier. The current building dates largely from the second half of the 18th century. The Campo Santa Sofia stretches from the Grand Canal to the Strada Nova; the church's campanile stands close to the Strada Nova, its lower section partially obscured by residential buildings. Nearby stands the Ca' d'Oro, also sometimes called Palazzo Santa Sofia. The church occupies a quiet spot in one of Venice's busiest corridors — the campo between the Grand Canal and the Strada Nova offers a moment of calm.
