Cloud-Flying Peak

Also known as: Luofushan, Luofu-Gebirge

Feiyun Ding, the Flying Cloud Peak, rises 1296 metres as the highest point of the Luofu mountain range in southern China's Guangdong province. The mountain has been counted among the ten famous Daoist peaks since the Han dynasty and legend explains its shape as the fusion of the original Luo mountain with the floating Fu mountain. The alchemist Ge Hong is said to have brewed elixirs of immortality here in the 4th century; his grave and several temples cluster on its slopes. A cable car from Boluo County now lifts visitors toward the summit, paralleled by a long stone staircase through subtropical forest. On clear days the view reaches across the Dong River valley to the Pearl River delta.
