Lantau Peak

Also known as: Fung Wong Shan

Lantau Peak, in Chinese Fung Wong Shan, at 934 metres is the highest summit on Lantau Island and the second-highest in Hong Kong after Tai Mo Shan in the north. The granite twin peak lies within Lantau South Country Park and is reached via stages 2 and 3 of the Lantau Trail. The classic outing is the sunrise hike: walkers set off in the middle of the night from Pak Kung Au or Ngong Ping to catch the sunrise over the South China Sea. On clear days the summit overlooks the islands of the Pearl River Delta, the Hong Kong Island skyline, and the Tian Tan Buddha at the neighbouring Po Lin Monastery. A few hundred metres below runs the Wisdom Path, opened in 2005, with timber pillars carved in Chinese calligraphy.
