Coleman Bridge

Coleman Bridge is a twin road bridge across the Singapore River that links Hill Street to New Bridge Road on the boundary between the Singapore River and Downtown Core planning areas. Today's bridge is the fourth on the site; the original, built in 1840, was the first bridge over the river and was designed by Irish architect George Drumgoole Coleman, the man who shaped much of colonial Singapore's town plan. The present structure dates from 1990 and pays tribute to its Victorian predecessor with cast-iron arches and replica lamp standards. From the footway the view takes in Clarke Quay's repurposed warehouses, the banking skyline and the bumboats sliding under the arches.
