Nairobi wildlife rescue for orphaned elephants – visitors can watch the daily feeding each morning.
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a wildlife conservation organisation in Nairobi specialising in the rescue and rewilding of orphaned elephants. It was founded in 1977 by Daphne Sheldrick in memory of her late husband, a national park warden. Visitors can watch the elephant calves being fed and playing together each morning – an experience available at very few places in the world. Since its founding, the programme has taken in and successfully rewilded more than 260 elephant orphans. Since 2001, the couple's daughter Angela Sheldrick has led the organisation.
