Bomas of Kenya

Nairobi

Open-air museum in Nairobi with reconstructed tribal homesteads and daily traditional dance performances.

Bomas of Kenya is a cultural centre and open-air museum in the Langata suburb of Nairobi, about 10 kilometres from the city centre. The site features reconstructed traditional homesteads belonging to different Kenyan ethnic groups — from the Maasai to the Kikuyu. Daily performances showcase traditional dances and music from across the country. The complex also houses one of the largest auditoriums in Africa. The name bomas comes from the Swahili word for homestead. It makes for a good family visit for those wanting to explore Kenya's cultural diversity.
