Railway Station
Modern station in southern Nairobi, the starting point of the 2017 standard gauge railway to Mombasa.
Nairobi Terminus station is located in the Syokimau district in southern Nairobi and serves as the departure point for the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). Opened in 2017, the line connects Kenya's capital with the port city of Mombasa over roughly 480 kilometres. Daily intercity and express trains cut the journey to around 4.5 hours — compared to over 12 hours on the old colonial-era narrow gauge railway. The infrastructure was financed and built by Chinese companies, making it a symbol of China's growing presence in African infrastructure development.
