Gatbawi

Gatbawi is a natural sandstone tafoni formation on the eastern shore of Mokpo's harbor, near the mouth of the Yeongsan River in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Its striking pitted surface is the result of millennia of salt weathering and wind erosion — the honeycomb cavities and channels are characteristic of tafoni, a rare geological phenomenon found in coastal and semi-arid environments worldwide. The rock sits within easy walking distance of the harbor front and offers quiet views across the estuary and the East China Sea, making it a local landmark more appreciated for its geological curiosity than for any grand scale.
