Gürcü Mehmet Paşa Çeşmesi

This Ottoman street fountain on Keçeciler Caddesi in the Hırka-ı Şerif district was commissioned in the 17th century by Gürcü Mehmed Pasha, a Grand Vizier of Georgian origin who served the Ottoman Empire. Built from cut stone in a restrained classical style, it features a single arched niche and a prominent inscribed stone set into its pointed arch. Its most striking feature today is its sunken position — centuries of rising street levels have left the fountain well below the current pavement, partially buried up to its mirror stone. It sits directly opposite the former dervish lodge of Mehmed Şemseddin Efendi. The water no longer flows.
