Gustaf Vasa Church stands at Odenplan in Stockholm's Norrmalm district and is one of Sweden's finest neo-Baroque churches. Consecrated on 10 June 1906, it is named after Gustav I Vasa, the king who led Sweden from the Kalmar Union into Lutheranism. Designed by architect Agi Lindegren, the building impresses with its imposing dome, richly decorated portals and bright interior featuring gilded details and elaborate murals. As a protected Swedish church monument (Kyrkligt kulturminne) it enjoys legal protection. The Odenplan square in front of the church is a lively spot in the heart of Norrmalm, easily reached by metro.
