Stone Bell House

Gothic town house (c. 1300) on Old Town Square – restored facade, now a Prague City Gallery venue.

The House at the Stone Bell is one of the most significant Gothic town houses in Prague, standing directly on Old Town Square beside the late Baroque Kinský Palace. Its name derives from a stone bell that is still embedded in the outer wall today. The original building from the late 13th or early 14th century was concealed for centuries by Baroque alterations, until an extensive restoration in the 1980s uncovered the Gothic facade with its pointed arch portals and richly decorated reliefs. Today it serves as an exhibition venue for the Prague City Gallery, hosting rotating exhibitions of contemporary and modern art – an intriguing combination of a medieval shell and current artistic expression.
