St. George's Square sits at the heart of Prague Castle, framed by the Basilica of St. George — one of the best-preserved Romanesque churches in Bohemia. The basilica was founded in the 10th century and rebuilt after a fire in 1142, its distinctive red-and-white twin towers a landmark within the castle precinct. The cobblestone square connects St. Vitus Cathedral to the castle's eastern complex and forms a natural passage along the main visitor route through the compound. The basilica itself rewards a closer look: its interior preserves early medieval stonework and a crypt dating to the earliest period of Bohemian dynastic history.
