Czech late-Romantic composer and musicologist (1859-1951).

Josef Bohuslav Foerster (1859-1951) was a Czech composer and musicologist of the late Romantic era. He spent significant periods in Hamburg and Vienna before returning to Prague. Foerster wrote operas, symphonies, chamber music, and songs marked by lyricism and a deep Czech national sentiment. As a professor at the Prague Conservatory he shaped generations of musicians. His name is closely tied to Czech musical life at the turn of the twentieth century.
