Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome

The Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut Rome (KNIR) is a Dutch research and teaching institute in the Valle Giulia quarter above Villa Borghese, founded in 1904. It forms part of the cluster of national academies around Viale delle Belle Arti, alongside the British School and the Swiss and Swedish institutes. Its mission is to support Dutch research into Italian history, art and classical antiquity; doctoral and undergraduate students from Dutch universities reside on site for several months. The on-site reference library focuses on archaeology and art history and is accessible by appointment; public lectures and exhibitions are held several times a year.
