Crimean Bridge

The Krymsky Bridge is a 1938 road bridge over the Moskva River in central Moscow, carrying the Garden Ring just south of Gorky Park. It is one of the few chain suspension bridges in Russia; the deck hangs from bare steel chains rather than wire cables, giving it an unusually slender silhouette. The name does not refer to the peninsula but to the old Crimean Ford, where Crimean-Khanate Tatars used to pressure the city for tribute payments. The current structure replaced an older nineteenth-century draw bridge. From the western bank pedestrians reach the Muzeon Sculpture Park, which holds Soviet monuments removed after 1991.
