Fallen Monument Park

Opened in 1992 in the wake of the Soviet Union's collapse, this open-air park managed by the Tretyakov Gallery brings together toppled and decommissioned monuments from the Soviet era. Statues of Lenin, Stalin, Felix Dzerzhinsky and other figures of the Soviet state stand stripped of their original pedestals and ideological context, scattered across a green parkland setting. The effect is quietly unsettling — colossal bronze and stone figures that once commanded public squares now sit at eye level among trees and walking paths, inviting reflection on how societies dismantle their own iconography. The site is open 24 hours and remains one of the more unusual intersections of art history and political memory in Moscow.
