Garage Center for Contemporary Culture

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow's Gorky Park is Russia's leading private institution for contemporary art, founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and co-funded by Roman Abramovich. Since 2015 it has occupied a Soviet 1960s restaurant called Vremena Goda, converted by Rem Koolhaas/OMA, which deliberately preserves the faded mosaics and broken marble. The programme has staged early retrospectives of Marina Abramovic, Rashid Johnson, Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami, and built one of the few research archives on Russian contemporary art. After Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Garage suspended its exhibition programme and shrank to archive and education work. Check the current status before visiting.
