Liechtenstein Garden

Liechtenstein Garden in Vienna's 9th district belongs to the Liechtenstein princely family's summer residence and is one of the city's best-preserved Baroque formal gardens. Laid out in the early 18th century along strictly geometric axes, it features clipped hedge corridors, sculpted alleys, and a central fountain that channels the eye toward the garden palace. Unlike Vienna's major public parks, the garden is not permanently open — it admits visitors only on select occasions, a restriction that preserves an unusual urban quiet. Those who enter encounter aristocratic garden design largely unchanged since the High Baroque, its old-growth canopy arching over sightlines that have remained intact for three centuries.
