Úřad městské části Praha-Ďáblice
Prague
Also known as: Volksgarten Wien
The Volksgarten was laid out from 1820 on the site of the city fortifications blown up by Napoleon, making it one of Vienna's first parks opened to the general public — a notably liberal gesture in imperial Biedermeier Vienna. Its centerpiece is the Theseus Temple (1823), a full-scale replica of Athens' Temple of Hephaestus commissioned to house Antonio Canova's marble Theseus group before the sculpture was moved to the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The rosarium, with over 3,000 rose varieties, blooms from May through October and is considered one of the finest urban rose gardens in Central Europe. Winding paths beneath mature trees offer unexpected calm at the edge of the Ringstrasse, flanked by the Burgtheater and the Hofburg complex.
Park between Hofburg and Burgtheater, 3,000 rose plants and the neoclassical Theseus Temple.
