Mori Art Museum

The Mori Art Museum (MAM) occupies the 53rd floor of the Mori Tower in Tokyo's Roppongi district, opened in 2003 as part of the Roppongi Hills development. It exhibits contemporary Japanese and international art but holds no permanent collection - the museum lives on changing, thematically ambitious shows. Its founder, property magnate Minoru Mori, deliberately placed the museum high above the city so that art and skyline merge. The architect was Richard Gluckman of New York. Exhibitions rotate every three to four months and range from retrospectives of Japanese avant-garde to thematic shows on climate or artificial intelligence. The ticket includes access to the Tokyo City View observation deck one floor up - sunsets here over Tokyo Tower are among the finest in the city, and the museum stays open until ten on most evenings.
