Saalegge

The Saalegge, at 299.6 metres above sea level, is the second-highest point in the town of Vlotho and in the entire Herford district. Located in the Valdorf neighbourhood, it sits within the Lipper Bergland, on the eastern fringe of the Weserbergland uplands. The suffix 'Egge' in its name is a Westphalian topographic term denoting an elongated ridge — a form clearly reflected in the hill's profile. The ridgeline offers views over the Weser valley and surrounding forested hills. Marked hiking trails connect the summit to Vlotho and Valdorf, and the nearby Ruschberg — nearly identical in elevation — can easily be combined into a circular walk.
