Schellenberg

Schellenberg is a 494.5-metre limestone spur of the Franconian Alb near Greding in the Eichstätt district, crowned by the prehistoric hillfort known as Schellenburg. The earthwork ramparts — typical of Iron Age Celtic fortifications in this part of Bavaria — are still clearly visible as broad earthen banks encircling the summit plateau. The hilltop offers open views across the rolling valleys and juniper heathland of the central Alb. Marked hiking trails from the Altmühl valley lead to the top, making it a manageable outing for walkers of most abilities.
