Schloss Mespelbrunn

Schloss Mespelbrunn is a moated Renaissance castle dating to 1412, set on a small island in a pond deep within the secluded Elsava valley of the Spessart forest. Expanded in the 16th century in the Franconian Renaissance style, its most remarkable distinction is that it has remained in unbroken private ownership by the same noble family — the Counts of Ingelheim — for over six centuries. Visitors pass through a well-preserved courtyard framed by round towers and reflect on the mirror-still pond, surrounded entirely by dense woodland that cuts the estate off from the modern world.
