Château de Salm
Strasbourg
Wildenburg is a medieval castle ruin in the North Rhine-Westphalian part of the Eifel, situated in the national-park municipality of Hellenthal. Founded around 1202, it ranks among the early hilltop fortifications of the High Venn–Eifel region and is today protected as a listed monument. Historical records of its 13th-century lordship are sparse, leaving the weathered stonework set against dense forest as the primary impression for visitors. The approach runs through the Eifel National Park, making it a natural hiking destination from Hellenthal. Its combination of ruin atmosphere and quiet woodland setting offers a low-key but evocative stop well off the main tourist routes.
