Montreux railway station
Opened in 1861 and protected as a Swiss cultural heritage site of national importance (Class A), Montreux station is the main rail hub of the Vaudois Riviera. It sits on the SBB Simplon main line, served by nearly all long-distance trains between Geneva and Milan. At the same time it serves as the departure point for two scenic mountain railways: the GoldenPass line to the Bernese Oberland via Zweisimmen — celebrated for its panoramic carriages — and the Montreux–Rochers-de-Naye rack railway, which climbs to 1,801 metres above the lake. The station building itself is a late 19th-century Historicist structure within easy walking distance of the famous Lake Geneva promenade.
