Hong Kong builds upward because land is scarce — and has done so with remarkable consistency for decades. The Hopewell Centre was one of Asia's boldest cylindrical towers when it opened, and Central Plaza held the title of the city's tallest building for years. For contrast, the Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse sits quietly at the island's southeastern tip: a Victorian structure watching the open sea while the skyline climbs behind it. Between curtain-wall skyscrapers, layered shopping complexes like Hysan Place, and scattered historical remnants, the city tells an architectural story that is hard to find this densely compressed anywhere else.
