Architecture in Berlin

Berlin has no single architectural language — and that is precisely what makes it so readable. Schloss Charlottenburg and the Museumsinsel speak to an imperial ambition that kept getting interrupted. Potsdamer Platz, by contrast, is an open experiment from the post-reunification years: glass facades that have since started showing their own patina. In between lie former wastelands turned into parks, like Tempelhofer Feld, where city history is visible as an actual runway. For anyone who can read architecture as biography, Berlin is an unusually honest book.
