Ракета Р-5В (8А62, SS-3)

The R-5 (NATO reporting name SS-3 Shyster) is a Soviet liquid-fueled medium-range ballistic missile from the early 1950s, displayed here as an outdoor exhibit in Schytomyr, Ukraine. It was the first Soviet missile designed to carry a nuclear warhead, with an operational range of around 1,200 km achieved after engineers increased it by modifying the propellant mix. Schytomyr has a direct connection to Soviet rocket history as the birthplace of Sergei Korolev, the chief designer behind the Soviet space program. The static display places a once-operational Cold War weapon in public view, offering an unmediated encounter with hardware from the Warsaw Pact's nuclear arsenal.
