Abbatiale Notre-Dame

The abbey church of Notre-Dame in Mouzon, in the Ardennes department of northeastern France, is one of the country's early Gothic structures, built from the late 12th century onward. Its architecture sits at the transition from Romanesque to early Gothic, with pointed arches and a verticality characteristic of the emerging new style. It was listed as a Monument historique in 1840 — among the very first buildings protected under France's newly established heritage classification system, introduced that same year. Today it stands as a quiet testament to medieval craftsmanship in rural Ardennes.
