Abbey Church

The Abbey Church of Amorbach is one of Germany's most distinguished Baroque church interiors, sitting at the heart of the small Odenwald town of Amorbach, roughly 9 km south of Miltenberg. The monastery was founded around 701 AD as one of the earliest Benedictine settlements in the Main-Franconian region, serving as a focal point of early Christian mission work in the area. Following secularization in 1803 under Napoleon, the complex passed to the Princes of Leiningen — who retain ownership to this day — and the church was converted to Protestant use. Inside, lavish stucco ornamentation, a striking twin-towered west facade, and an exceptional 18th-century Baroque organ define the visitor experience. That organ is considered one of the best-preserved instruments of its era in southern Germany, drawing organists and concert audiences far beyond the region.
