Acoyte

Acoyte station is a stop on Línea A of the Buenos Aires Subte, which opened in 1913 as Latin America's first underground railway — this particular section was inaugurated on 14 July 1914. Located beneath Avenida Rivadavia in the Caballito neighborhood, the station takes its name from the Battle of Acoyte on 11 February 1818, when a small band of Argentine gauchos led by Bonifacio Ruiz de los Llanos reportedly defeated a Spanish force twice their size. Línea A's original wooden rolling stock ran for decades and became something of a Buenos Aires legend; while modern trains now serve the line, the tiled platforms and vaulted ceilings of its oldest stations still reflect early-20th-century station design. The station is wheelchair accessible.
