Adamkayalar

Adamkayalar — Turkish for 'human rocks' — are Roman funerary reliefs carved directly into the limestone cliffs of ancient Cilicia, near the ruins of Korykos outside modern Kızkalesi on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. Dating roughly to the 1st–3rd centuries AD, the panels depict toga-clad and military figures, likely local dignitaries or officers whose identities remain unknown. The site sits well off the tourist trail, accessible only by a narrow path through maquis scrub and pine — the isolation is part of its character. Visitors who make the climb are rewarded with finely carved figures set against a backdrop of open sea and the distant silhouette of the medieval sea castle of Kızkalesi.
