Eagle Monument

The Eagle Monument in Keetmanshoop is a war memorial dating from the German colonial period in what was then German South West Africa, and has been a protected National Monument of Namibia since 1 August 1967. The eagle motif was a hallmark of Imperial German military symbolism. Standing in the small town at the heart of the ǁKaras Region, the monument today serves as a quiet reminder of a contested colonial history that is increasingly subject to public reassessment.
