Aigyr-Zhal 2

Aigyr-Zhal 2 is an archaeological excavation site on the outskirts of Naryn in the central Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan, investigated by the University of Central Asia. It represents the only known evidence of continuous human habitation in this highland region from the Mesolithic period through the Middle Ages — a stratigraphic sequence of rare depth for Central Asia. The site was discovered in 1953 by archaeologist Akhmat Kibirov, but suffered partial destruction during Soviet-era construction before eventually receiving protected monument status. The site offers little visitor infrastructure but carries significant scientific weight as a window into prehistoric life in the Tien Shan.
