Allahabad Fort

Allahabad Fort is a Mughal fortification built under Emperor Akbar around 1583 at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, on the edge of what is now Prayagraj. One of the largest Mughal forts in India, it was strategically designed to control the Doab region between the two rivers. Within its massive bastions lies the Akshayvat — a banyan tree considered immortal in Hindu mythology — long kept off-limits to civilians and still only partially accessible today. Protected as a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India, much of the fort remains an active military installation, which permanently closes significant portions to visitors.
