Altmann

The Altmann, at 2,435 metres, is the second-highest peak in the Alpstein massif, rising along the cantonal border between Appenzell Innerrhoden and St. Gallen in northeastern Switzerland. Its distinctive limestone block is part of the same Mesozoic sedimentary formation that defines the Alpstein, sharing the same geological fabric as the neighbouring Säntis. The ascent demands alpine experience and surefootedness, with a via ferrata securing the steepest sections near the summit. On clear days the summit cross commands a wide panorama stretching from the Swiss pre-Alps to Lake Constance and the Austrian border ranges.
