Amberley Castle

Amberley Castle is a medieval fortification in the village of Amberley, West Sussex, about 60 kilometres southwest of London. Its origins trace to around 1103, when Bishop Luffa of Chichester began construction; the curtain wall with its crenellated towers, still largely intact, dates primarily from the 14th century. The castle now operates as a luxury hotel with 19 individually styled rooms set within the ancient walls — open fireplaces, a walled garden, and a croquet lawn lend the stay a distinctly time-removed atmosphere. As a Grade I listed structure it carries England's highest level of heritage protection.
