Zug Castle

Zug Castle sits at the heart of the city's newer medieval quarter, enclosed within the second historic town wall — an unusual configuration that reflects how tightly the fortress and urban fabric grew together over the centuries. Classified as Swiss cultural heritage of national importance (Klasse A), it ranks among the most protected historic monuments in the country. The castle today houses a museum dedicated to the history of the city and canton of Zug. Visitors wandering the narrow lanes of Zug's old town encounter the medieval stonework almost by surprise, a striking counterpoint to the prosperous financial city that surrounds it.
