Amona

Amona was the largest Israeli outpost in the occupied West Bank, established in 1995 on a hilltop near Ofra in the Mateh Benjamin region. In 2014 Israel's Supreme Court ruled that the outpost had been built on privately owned Palestinian land and ordered its complete evacuation by the end of 2016. The forced eviction in February 2017 became a political flashpoint: hundreds of residents and activists resisted removal while the Israeli government simultaneously attempted to pass retroactive legislation to legalize the structures. Today only ruins remain on the site — it functions less as a destination than as a contested reference point in the ongoing debate over Israeli settlement policy and international law.
