Bethphage monastery

Bethphage monastery sits on the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem, marking the Gospel site from which Jesus began his Palm Sunday entry into Jerusalem. The Franciscan community that maintains the site preserves a medieval stone block venerated for centuries as the place where Jesus mounted the donkey for the procession. Every Palm Sunday, thousands of pilgrims gather here for a solemn procession down the Mount of Olives into the Old City of Jerusalem.
