Aquae Cutiliae

Aquae Cutiliae was an ancient Roman thermal spa in Umbria, not far from modern-day Terni. Situated beside the Lago di Cutilia, a small lake fed by sulfurous mineral springs long considered medicinal, the site attracted Roman aristocracy and emperors alike. According to Suetonius, Emperor Vespasian died here in 79 AD, and his son Titus reportedly favored the waters as well. Little remains visible above ground today, but archaeological investigations have identified bathing structures and a sanctuary complex. The site is primarily of interest to those tracing Roman imperial history through the landscape of central Italy.
