Arch 22

Arch 22 — formally the Never Again Memorial Arch — is a triumphal arch monument at the entrance to Banjul and the defining landmark of The Gambia. It was commissioned by military ruler Yahya Jammeh in 1996 to mark the coup of 22 July 1994, a date that gives the arch its name. The classicist structure stands approximately 35 metres tall and contains a small museum inside displaying traditional garments from the country's various ethnic groups. Visitors can climb to the top platform for views across Banjul's low-rise skyline and the Gambia River beyond.
