Temenos with Double Monument
ArchaeologyAntiquityCult Site+1
Beneath the courtyard of Corte Sgarzerie lie the buried remains of a Roman Capitolium — a temple precinct dedicated to the Capitoline Triad of Jupiter, Minerva, and Juno. In Roman civic life, such temples occupied a central role, marking a city's religious and political standing within the empire. Archaeological excavations exposed foundations and architectural fragments that remain visible below the modern courtyard level. Unassuming on the surface, the site offers a rare glimpse of a pagan sacred space preserved directly beneath the fabric of the contemporary city.
