Hermonthis

Armant, known in antiquity as Hermonthis, sits on the west bank of the Nile roughly 20 kilometres south of Luxor. It served as the capital of the 4th nome of Upper Egypt during the 18th Dynasty and again in the Roman period, making it a significant administrative and cultic centre in two distinct eras of Egyptian history. Today it is a modest modern town, though archaeological remains from the pharaonic and Ptolemaic periods in its vicinity continue to draw the attention of Egyptologists.
